Once again we would like to offer young people from the local community (aged 13-18) the opportunity to assist with the staging of our Summer season of plays.

Between now and June Strange Town will be producing 5 plays, written by the company’s team of writers and performed by actors in its youth theatre, aged 8-18, for audiences of all ages. These will be simply staged on a small budget, performed at the Scottish Storytelling Centre on the Royal Mile and the Traverse Theatre- off Lothian Road.

Joining the production team as production assistants, those on work experience would be an integral part of a team supervised and led by Strange Town’s Design & Production Manager and Stage Manager, also incorporating the youth theatre directors, their assistants, and the young actors. The production assistants would be working in the Strange Town stage management workshop and rehearsal spaces on either Mondays 6-8pm, Tuesdays 6-8pm, Wednesdays 5pm-7pm or Fridays 2pm – 3.30pm or 3.30pm – 5.30pm at Out of the Blue from April-June 2019.

Main duties of the Strange Town Production Assistants would be:

  • sourcing and making props, simple set and costumes
  • attending rehearsals
  • liaising with production manager, directors, cast members and volunteers

During production dates at the end of June 2019 (dates vary), the production assistants would also be expected to assist in the performance venue (Scottish Storytelling Centre or Traverse Theatre) with setting of props, dressing the stage, assisting backstage and front of house. After productions, they would help with the get out of props from the venue back to Out of the Blue.

The project will commence with sessions from approx 22nd April and will finish 23rd June 2019.
