HER – January & February 2023

Fantastic actors. All school children should see this show.

An amazing show with such a talented group of young actors. The subject matter is such an important one to address and I wonder if you would consider extending the programme throughout other areas of Scotland. Well done it was brilliant.

The show deserves to be seen by as many young people as possible

HER by Jen Adam, first toured Edinburgh Schools between 24th January- 10th February 2023 with public performances 3rd and 4th February at the Scottish Storytelling Centre.

HER is a play about the damaging effects of gender inequality, the truth about consent and asks, how can you be the change you want to see in the world, when you feel like the world is fighting against you?

*Trigger warning* – this play deals with themes of sexual harassment and assault. For this reason, the play is suitable for pupils in S4 – S6.

Question at the heart of the play: How can you be the change you want to see in the world, when you feel like the world is fighting against you?

To show we want to live in a world where:

– Consent matters

– women are believed, not victimised

– inequality is stamped out

– misogyny and sexism are challenged

HER had a brilliant reaction from the schools we toured it to!

I like when the hero turned out not to be the hero!

I liked the ending when you find it hasn’t only happened to her but others too.

Mature, relatable and real themes.

I have never seen anything like that before. It was amazing!

The actors were so talented.

The way they used the studio was different and I loved the projection.

The actors were incredible, really convincing.

I enjoyed HER as I thought it was very informative and got its point across.

The Q & A was very informative and helped me think about my own acting

piece and section 2 in my exam. The set and sound were very impressive.

I enjoyed it very much.

The performance of HER by Strange Town was masterfully produced.

The characters were embodied beautifully by the actors and the set was

incredibly well designed. The Q & A after the performance was highly

informative and useful for my own set and prop design work – 9/10

It was really impressive.

I loved the set and staging, it really added to the story which was emotive

and powerful. The actors were captivating and the portrayal of the

non-naturalistic style was amazing. The Q & A afterwards was informative

and helpful for my own acting piece. Overall it was an eye opening and

highly enjoyable learning experience. 🙂
